The quarry is primarily comprised of dolomitic limestone. Dolomitic limestone is a term used for sedimentary carbonate rock composed mostly of the mineral dolomite. Dolomite is a translucent mineral consisting of a calcium-magnesium carbonate. Becauseth e limestone located within the quarries at Pattison Sand is an extremely pure dolomite limestone it doesn't hold moisture as well as most dolomitic and calcite limestone which has helped their rock to earn the highest rating available in the state of Iowa.

The quarry produces 3 and 3i quality stone, asphalt grade manufactured sand, asphalt chips, secondary/yard spec ballast rock and Rip Rap approved for use by the Army Corps of Engineers,/ DDTM, NDOT and NDOR.

Being constant innovators Pattison Sand is committed to moving the product to market in the most cost effective manners available. Located on the main line of a Class 1 railroad gives Pattison a competitive edge, however, they haven't just settled there. Next year they will introduce technology to move product directly from the production area, through a tunnel feeder and into rail cars, eliminating product handling , ncreasing consistency in aggregate quality and decreasing loading/cycle times for rail cars, which in turn means additional savings for our customers.
